2. Thomas Isaac Wharton (1791–1856), an 1807 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, served as a volunteer in the War of 1812. His literary pursuits included contributions to the Philadelphia Port Folio and the Analectic Magazine. Wharton became a prominent Philadelphia lawyer and author of treatises on the law. He was elected a member of the American Philosophical Society in 1830, was a founder of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and was a member of the Library and Athenaeum Companies.
