I have recd. by the mail of this day a check drawn by James Monroe on this Bank for 1.200 Dolls. which, according to the endorsement I have placed to your credit in this Bank.1 Very Respectfully I have the Honor to be Sir Your Obt Sert

2. William Whann (d. 1822) was cashier of the Bank of Columbia in Georgetown, D.C., for over twenty years (Daily National Intelligencer, 11 Mar. 1822).
