He is from Long Island in the State of New York, & of the best connections there, & a very respectable young man, of his age. 1. David Johnson Gardiner (1804–1829) was born on Gardiner’s Island, New York, and graduated from Yale College in 1824. He became proprietor of the island on the death of his father in 1816 (Franklin Bowditch Dexter, ed., Biographical Sketches of the Graduates of Yale College [6 vols.; New York, 1885–1912], suppl. [1913], 124).
