I send you by Mr. Winslow £63–16. in gold, a payment advanced by Mr. Broadhead.1 I have at command also the 200 dollrs. which I mentioned as to be paid the 2d. of this month, & which you may draw on me for. I refer to my letter to my father & to Mr. Winslow for news. Yrs affy.

RC (owned by Jerry N. Showalter, Charlottesville, Va., 1985). Undated. Addressed by JM to Ambrose Madison at Orange, “Favd. by Mr. B. Winslow.” JM also wrote on the cover: “I have added £21–4. more to the sum within mentioned, which Mr. W. will also deliver. You may still draw for £30. on me.” Damaged by removal of seal. Conjectural date assigned by comparison with JM to Ambrose Madison, 8 Nov. 1786, and JM to James Madison, Sr., 12 Dec. 1786 (PJM description begins Robert J.
