Sir,
The exigency of the present moment requiring a large supply of Boards, plank and scantling which cannot be procured in the ordinary way—You are hereby directed and empowered to impress all those articles you can find1 at Albany and in the vicinity, and waggons to transport them to proper places of embarkation;2 for which this shall be your warrant. Given at Robinsons Farms—State of New York July 31st 1780.

GW’s aide-de-camp Alexander Hamilton noted on the draft: “A similar one was given to Col. [Udny] Hay comprehending all the North River and to Mr Hubbard for Connecticut.” The letter to Hay, presumably of this date, has not been found, but see GW to Hay, 1 August.
1. On the copy addressed to Hubbard, the next six words are replaced by: “in the State of Connecticut according to the Orders you shall receive from the Q.M. General.”
2. The previous five words do not appear on the copy addressed to Hubbard.
