James Maxwell (b. ca. 1788), printer and bookseller, plied his trade in Philadelphia from 1810 until 1831. During this period he printed, among other works, the Analectic Magazine, 1815–20, and inexpensive editions of Sir Walter Scott’s novels. Maxwell relocated by 1832 to Louisville, Kentucky, where he still resided in 1844.
