Edmund Harrison presents his respectful acknowledgments to Mr. Jefferson,—thanks him for the parliamentary Manual, which is enhanced in value from the polite and friendly manner in which it was presented.

Where the voice of Millions join in the wish that our present chief Magistrate may long fill the exalted station, which he has so much dignified, the single expression of an Individual conforming to that Wish, cannot be deemed intrusive.—

Edmund Harrison (1764–1826) represented Prince George County in the Virginia House of Delegates in the late 1780s and early 1790s, and subsequently served on Virginia’s Council of State. Having established an estate in Amelia County, he represented that county for seven consecutive terms as a delegate, and was speaker during the 1802–3 term. In 1806, he married Martha Wayles Skipwith, a niece of Martha Wayles Jefferson (E. Griffith Dodson, Speakers and Clerks of the Virginia House of Delegates, 1776–1955 [Richmond, 1956], 39; CVSP description begins William P.
