To Thomas Jefferson from Mary Jefferson, [ca. 31 March 1787]

From Mary Jefferson

[ca. 31 Mch. 1787]

Dear Papa

I should be very happy to see you, but I can not go to France, and hope that you and sister Patsy are well. Your affectionate daughter. Adieu.

Mary Jefferson

MS not found. Text is from Randolph, Domestic Life description begins Sarah N. Randolph, The Domestic Life of Thomas Jefferson description ends , p. 104, where it is printed as one of three undated letters from Mary Jefferson (see also Mary Jefferson to TJ, ca. 13 Sep. 1785 and ca. 22 May 1786). Though it cannot be proved, it is probable that the present letter is the one which TJ recorded in SJL without date as received 27 May 1787 at Bordeaux with letters from Francis Eppes, 30 Mch. 1787, and Elizabeth Wayles Eppes, 31 Mch. 1787.
