Keep the Good of your Country at heart and do well and the Lord will reward you

your Freind

RC (DLC); undated; addressed: “Optimo Viro in hac patria Esquire qui est salvator patria sua et maximus Amicus humani Generis hoc Tempore—Federal City, Washington” (that is, “the Best Man in this country, Esquire; who is the savior of the human race at this time, a friend of his own country, and a great man”) and “mail”; stamped; above address in pencil in unidentified hand: “This must be intended for the present President of the US”; endorsed by TJ as received from an anonymous writer on 18 Feb. and “Latin inscription” and so recorded in SJL.
