According to TJ’s financial memoranda, TJ gave George Andrews two orders on Barnes—one on 12 Oct. for $20.50 for making composition ornaments for the dining room at Monticello, the other on 7 Nov. for $2.49 for packing the “Doric composition ornaments.” In a statement of TJ’s accounts, Barnes recorded a payment of $22.99 to Andrews at 7 Nov. TJ emended the entry to clarify that there were two payments, the one at 7 Nov. for $2.49, the other for $20.50 (, 2:1055, 1057; statement of private and household account from John Barnes, 4 Dec. 1801, in ViU).
