Honoured Sir.

 I had the honour of writing your Excellency the 19th. July last whereof the above is a fourth Copy.
T,F,  I have now that of inclosing your Excellency Bill Lading of One Butt of Sherry Wine which I have Shipped on board the American Ship Eliza Capt. N. C. Bissel bound to Philadelphia and Consigned to the Collector of said Port subject to your Excelly. orders—I also remit the Invoice from the House at Sherry from whom I have had the Liquor amounting to $194,85/100 which your Excellency will remit me whenever it is agreable.
 
 I have made no Insurance on said Wine as your Excellency had given no orders respecting it.
 The advices I have from Madrid are that our Governt. is doing all in its power to remain perfect Neutral in the actual differences between France & England—
 This is the very first oppertunity that has offered since I had the honour of receiving your Excellencys order—
 I have the honour to be with the most profound respect Honoured Sir. Your most obt. hble Servt.

RC (DLC); in a clerk’s hand, signed by Yznardi; follows, on same page, quadruplicate of Yznardi to TJ, 19 July; at foot of text: “To His Excellency Thomas Jefferson President of the United States of America at the City of Washington”; endorsed by TJ as received 22 Dec. and so recorded in SJL. Dupl (same); at head of text: “Copy”; in a clerk’s hand, signed by Yznardi; endorsed by TJ as received 20 Jan. 1804 and so recorded in SJL. Enclosures: (1) Bill of lading, Cadiz, 22 Oct. 1803, being a printed form, with blanks filled by a clerk and signed by N. C. Bissell, master of the ship Eliza, describing a shipment consisting of “One Doubled Cased Butt of Sherry Wine,” with freight costs of “Ten Mexican Round Dollars,” and addressed to the collector in Philadelphia or Norfolk (MS in same: TJ Papers, 136:23437; Dupl in same, 136:23438). (2) Invoice, dated 18 Oct. 1803, for a cased butt of “superior Sherry Wine” sold by Gordon & Co. of Jerez, Spain, to Yznardi for a total cost of $194.85 (MS in same, 135:23415). Enclosed in Anthony Terry to the collectors of “any of the Ports of the United States,” 22 Oct. (same, 136:23435).
