FC (DLC: Short Papers); partially dated; entirely in Short’s hand, consisting of an entry in his epistolary record. Recorded in SJL as received from Philadelphia on 19 Feb. Enclosure not found.
TJ enclosed some of Short’s financial papers in his letter of 23 Jan.
Short and his Indian Camp manager Joseph price were trying to convince one of Short’s tenants, John durrett, to relinquish his lease in exchange for a different plot of land. Durrett had previously inquired about purchasing land from Short (Joseph Price to Short, 13 Jan. 1804, DLC: Short Papers; Vol. 40:107).
anthony: possibly a reference to Anthony Giannini, another of Short’s tenants, who wrote Short in December to warn him about Price’s efforts to control all the best land in the neighborhood and to implore Short to allow him to remain a tenant (Anthony Giannini to Short, 23 Dec. 1803, DLC: Short Papers).
