Df, in Robert Hanson Harrison’s writing, DLC:GW; Varick transcript, DLC:GW.

Huntington, as senior brigadier general, apparently led the Connecticut division on this march, even though GW had assigned command to Major General Lafayette. See the second general orders for 7 June (Document V under the Battle of Connecticut Farms, 7–8 June).

GW also issued orders to Maj. Gen. Arthur St. Clair on this date: “If You hear nothing from me to the Contrary—You will march tomorrow morning by three OClock—and halt on some good ground at or near Rockaway bridge on the road between Morris & Pompton where the Troops will remain till further Orders (Df, in Robert Hanson Harrison’s writing, DLC:GW; Varick transcript, DLC:GW). GW wrote “on the road between Morris & Pompton” on the draft.

1GW wrote the previous two words on the draft.

2Rockaway Bridge spanned the Rockaway River in New Jersey about two miles east of Boonton and about four miles northwest of Parsippany.

3GW wrote the previous seven words on the draft.
