Philadelphia 8 Oct 1794

My dear Sir

Your exertions in my department during my absence will never be obliterated.1 I regret my long stay. If things shall be so serious as to require the President to go forward, I hope I may be indulged in joining him. I have not seen Mr. Jays dispatches.
