The inclosed are furnished by the Director of the mint to be laid before Congress. the law requires they should be accompanied with the settlements which have been made relative thereto, duly certified by the Comptroller of the Treasury. duplicates of such a paper are desired with the return of these to be sent to each house by

On 6 Jan., Elias Boudinot, director of the mint, sent his annual report to the State Department (see , Sec. of State Ser., 6:311). Jacob Wagner forwarded it to TJ with an unsigned note: “Two copies of the annual report of the Director of the Mint. This document is required by law (2 Vol. p. 39 s. 7.) to be laid before Congress, together the Comptroller’s settlements with the officers of the Mint” (MS in DLC: TJ Papers, 146:25345; undated; entirely in Wagner’s hand).
