Dear & hond sir.
The Bearer of this Mr Wanton Casey is the son of Mr Silas Casey of Rhode Island, he came hither about 2 Years ago warmly recommended to me by Aunt Mecom & has been ever since in my Counting House.2 I beg leave to introduce him to you as a very worthy Young man & request you will honour him with your Notice & Civility.
I am as ever most dutifully & affectionately Yours.

2. Jane Mecom had sent a letter to BF with Casey, but the young man did not deliver it in person. See XXVIII, 345, where he is identified, and XXIX, 357. Casey was also the youngest founding member of the Kentish Guards in Rhode Island: Richard K. Showman et al., eds., The Papers of General Nathanael Greene (10 vols. to date, Chapel Hill, N.C., 1976–), I, 62n, 68, 71–3.
