1. An associate in the Perregaux bank, which was established by his brother, Jean-Frédéric Perregaux (XXXV, 556n): Lüthy, Banque protestante, 11, 718–21.
2. This sum was to satisfy the bill Leveux sent on March 30: XLII, 90. In late July or early August Leveux wrote again, forwarding a packet to BF. His cover letter is missing, but on Aug. 7 L’Air de Lamotte answered it on BF’s behalf: BF thanked Leveux for the packet and confessed to having forgotten about the account sent in March. He gave permission for Leveux to draw on him and indicated that the draft should show that it was for advances made to American prisoners. As for the 6 l.t. 14 s. 9 d. that Leveux incurred for the packet, BF wished to keep that separate from the prisoners’ account, and asked that Leveux either wait for reimbursement or else name a banker in Paris to whom that sum could be remitted: L’Air de Lamotte to Leveux, Aug. 7, 1784 (APS). Grand paid the March 30 bill on Aug. 22: Account XXVII (XXXII, 4).
