6We assume that they were accepting for the celebration on Saturday, July 4, to which the commissioners invited all the American ladies and gentlemen in Paris: Butterfield, John Adams Diary, II, 317; IV, 143–4. The year must be 1778, the last Lloyd spent in France. According to WTF’s accounts, the cost of the dinner amounted to 600 l.t., 7 s.: Account III, XXIII, 19.
