2Feb. 21. There are five additional invitations for Monday dinners during the remaining months of BF’s stay in France. All are engraved forms with MS insertions, issued in the name of the marquis only and written in English, with dates of March 14, April 5, April 19, April 26, and May 3, for dinners on March 21, April 11, April 25, May 2, and May 9, respectively. All are at the APS, except the one of April 26 (N.-Y. Hist. Soc). These invitations differ in wording and layout from those that Lafayette had been using since 1783: XL, 118; XLI, 128–9n. The invitation of April 5 is reproduced in Idzerda, Lafayette Papers, V, 58.
