From the Comte de Vergennes

Copy: Library of Congress

a Versailles le 6. 9bre. 1778.

[Note numbering follows the Franklin Papers source.]

6The French foreign minister must have been sending copies of the treaty as amended by the deletion of two controversial articles. The exchange of declarations annulling articles XI and XII had been scheduled for, and as far as we know occurred on, Nov. 2: XXVII, 668. On Nov. 7 the commissioners sent a copy of their declaration to the president of Congress.
