Th: Jefferson asks the favor of mr Brent to give a passage to the inclosed letters to mr Gallatin & mr Beasley, by the first safe conveyance with the dispatches of the department of state. he returns him many thanks for past favors, and will often have to apologize for future troubles. he salutes him with assurances [of great] [respect?]

Mitchell to TJ, 24 Feb. 1818; undated, with placement at 12 May 1818 based on Brent’s acknowledgment in his 15 May reply and TJ’s SJL notation concerning the enclosed letters; endorsed by TJ and recorded in SJL, however, as a letter of 10 May 1818; closing faint.
