1. Septimius Tyler wrote James Monroe on 13 Sept. 1814, repeating his request for a commission in the quartermaster’s department (DNA: RG 94, Letters Received, filed under “Tyler”). On 15 Sept. he was appointed an assistant deputy quartermaster general at the rank of captain ( 1:977).
