Amsterdam 11 January 1788

Being deprived of Your Excellency’s esteemed favors, since our last respects of 8 Inst. We have now only to request you to inform us by return the Mail; Whether the Drafts you mentioned to be obliged to accept for acct. of the United-States, form Part of the Fifteen or Sixteen Hundred Guineas, you purpose drawing for? If not, to what Amount the said Acceptance may extend? Likewise, the sums we ought to hold in readiness to face Colo. Smith’s expences, or as near an Estimate as can be made? All which the interest of the United-States, rendering it essentially Necessary for us to be acquainted of without delay. We do not doubt Your Excellency’s immediate Compliance with our desire.–
