Kingston [New York] March 19, 1783. States that the Corporation of Kingston desires to become the seat of the Continental Congress and discusses the advantages it affords as well as the privileges the town is willing to extend. Encloses a letter from Governor George Clinton2 to Congress transmitting a joint resolution of the New York legislature and an act of the Corporation of Kingston proposing that Congress make Kingston its permanent residence.

1. Christopher Tappen was the clerk of the trustees of the Corporation of Kingston.

2. According to the Journals, Clinton’s letter was received on April 4, 1783, and referred to a committee (JCC description begins Journals of the Continental Congress, 1774–1789 (Washington, 1904–1937). description ends , XXIV, 229, note 2).
