LS, in Richard Kidder Meade’s writing, MHi: Heath Papers; Df, DLC:GW; Varick transcript, DLC:GW.

1The enclosure was a letter written at Morristown on this date from GW to Maj. Gen. Robert Howe. The draft of that letter reads: “The Court Martial in the case of General Arnold of which you are President is appointed to meet at this Town on the 20th instant—I am therefore to request that you will without fail attend at that time” (Df, in Alexander Hamilton’s writing, DLC:GW; Varick transcript, DLC:GW; see also Heath to GW, 14 Dec., and Howe’s second letter to GW, same date). For Maj. Gen. Benedict Arnold’s court-martial, which resumed on 23 Dec., see GW to Joseph Reed, 4 Dec., and the notes to that document.
