1George William Fairfax was agent for Lord Fairfax, to whom as proprietor of the Northern Neck the quitrents were due. The rate was 2s. sterling per 100 acres (2s. 6d. current money), the same as the king’s quitrent in the rest of Virginia. The separate ledger that GW devoted to his quitrents has not been found, but his papers and accounts contain many references to quitrents and levies.
