1In Ledger B description begins General Ledger B, 1772–1793. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , 213, GW credits Muse between 17 Feb. and 6 May with £230.15 for 735 bushels of wheat. For GW’s purchase of wheat from Muse in December 1785, see Muse to GW, 28 Nov., 10 Dec. 1785, 12 Jan. 1786, and GW to Muse, 16 Dec. 1785. GW wrote Muse on 12 May refusing Muse’s offer to sell him the “surplus wheat,” apparently fifty bushels belonging to Dr. Wilson Selden (see Muse to GW, 15 Nov. 1785, 4 June, 11 July 1786). At the same time, GW agreed to manufacture and pack flour for Muse, and Muse sent to GW’s mill 500 bushels of wheat (GW to Muse, 12 May, 1 July, Muse to GW, 4 June). See also Muse to GW, 31 Aug., 26 Nov. 1786, and GW to Muse, 25 July, 1 Aug., and 4 Dec. 1786. Colonel Griffin may be Samuel Griffin of Williamsburg.
