To George Washington from Adam Stephen, April 1757

From Adam Stephen

[c.April 1757]

Sir,

I have had an opportunity of knowing Mr Kenndy perfectly well, and always found him diligent and carefull—by which means I am of opinion there was not one Single ounce of provisions lost through his neglect whilst he resided at Fort Cumberland.1

Adam Stephen

ALS, DLC:GW.

1GW has docketed this: “Recommendation of Sergt Davd Kennedy.” For the dating of this, see George Mercer et al. to GW, c.April 1757. Like Mercer, Stephen left for South Carolina before the end of May and was still there when Kennedy became quartermaster.
