MS (CSmH); in a clerk’s hand; with order in TJ’s hand at foot of text: “Mr. Barnes is pleased to pay this Th: Jefferson Feb. 17. 1802”; signed by Duane acknowledging payment; endorsed by John Barnes as paid in full on 22 Feb. 1802.

In a statement of TJ’s account from 4 Jan. 1802 to 7 July 1803, Duane recorded the purchase date of the printed letters and Wedgwood inkstands as 13 Feb. 1802. He also described the letters as “1 Ream Invitations 2 on a sheet 4to. post” with a price of $20 (CSmH).
