Th: Jefferson having been obliged to send what pocket money he had to Monticello will thank mr Barnes for 25. or 30. D. in small bills.2

TJ’s financial memoranda records that he received $25 from Barnes the same day (MB description begins James A. Bear, Jr., and Lucia C.
