In his letter of this day, TJ informed George jefferson that several items he expected to find waiting for him at Monticello had yet to arrive. The president asked his cousin to have the syrup of punch, sheet iron, whale oil, and some packages shipped from Washington transported via wagon, while ensuring a river portage for a tenth package (the clock) and for barrels of fish ordered for Sam Carr and himself. He also extended an invitation to Monticello (PrC in MHi; faint; at foot of text: “Mr. George Jefferson”; endorsed by TJ in ink on verso).
