1Herman LeRoy and William Bayard were partners in the New York City mercantile firm of LeRoy, Bayard, and McEvers, which represented the Holland Land Company in the United States. The third partner was James McEvers.

This receipt was sent to H in his capacity as attorney for the six Dutch banking firms which were formally organized as the Holland Land Company on February 13, 1796.

2P. and C. Van Eeghen was one of the four Dutch banking houses in Amsterdam which in 1789 appointed Théophile Cazenove as their agent to handle their speculations in American securities, and it was one of the six firms which formed the Holland Land Company in 1796.

3James Chevalier was a New York City merchant. In addition, he was the publisher of the [New York] Mercantile Advertiser from April 22, 1799, to August 23, 1799, when he died.
