Motion that the States Settle the Accounts of Officers in the Mustering Department

[Princeton, New Jersey] July 18, 1783

That it be recommended to the several states to liquidate & settle the accounts of the depreciation of the officers employed in the Mustering department on the same principles as have been observed in liquidating & settling those of other officers of the army.1

1. The endorsement states that the motion was referred to the Secretary at War. According to the Journals, the report of the Secretary was delivered July 26 and debated August 12. H’s motion was negatived (JCC description begins Journals of the Continental Congress, 1774–1789 (Washington, 1904–1937). description ends , XXIV, 441).
