Burlington [New Jersey] May 9, 1785. Ask for information and advice on the progress being made in the sale of 40,000 acres in the Otsego Patent.

1. Cooper, who later founded Cooperstown, New York, was the father of James Fenimore Cooper. From 1776 to 1786 Cooper and Craig, both of Burlington, New Jersey, purchased the greater part of the Otsego Patent, which had originally been granted to George Croghan.
