[Philadelphia, December 17, 1792. On December 18, 1792, Hamilton wrote to Hodgdon: “I am to acknowledge the receipt of your favor of yesterday.” Letter not found.]

1Hodgdon, who had been a member of the commissary department of the Continental Army during the American Revolution, had served as quartermaster general of the United States Army from March, 1791, to April, 1792. At the time this letter was written he was serving as Army storekeeper in Philadelphia.
