Mr. Hamiltons Compliments to the Recorder and to Doctor Bailey2—is very sorry that he can’t have the pleasure of meeting them this Evening as the weather is bad and he is a good deal indisposed.

1Varick was the recorder of New York City.

2Dr. Richard Bailey (Bayley), a native of Connecticut, had studied medicine in New York City and later in London where he was working at the outbreak of the American Revolution. He returned to America as a surgeon in the British army under Howe. In 1777 he resigned his position and settled in New York City where he remained until his death in 1801.
