1On June 25, 1792, Ellery wrote to Oliver Wolcott, Jr.: “I have … recd. a Letter from the Secry of the Treasy of the 7th of June in which he has manifested his consent to my purchase of the Scales and weights, and informs that he had instructed you in order to their being passed in my account” (LC, Newport Historical Society, Newport, Rhode Island).
