Nicholas Cruger to Rengger and Company1

St. Croix, July 18, 1772. “… This Vessell of mine is a fine large new sloop. I am sending her to New York and I’ll thank you to let me know if there is any one at your Island that would ship about 50 Hhds Sugar on freight or if theres any passengers that want to go to New York. She shall come over for them in about a fortnight.…”

1John Rengger, of St. Croix, headed a trading firm with offices in both St. Croix and St. Thomas (The Royal Danish American Gazette, April 29, 1775). This letter may have been sent to the St. Thomas branch of the firm, or it may have been sent to a firm of the same name on one of the other islands in the West Indies.
