<Rue du Faubourg-Montmartre, November 21, 1777, in French: I came to present you the enclosed memorandum.7 M. Dalibard would have done so himself but, the matter being urgent and perhaps useful to Congress, advised me to deliver it myself, and assured me that he would ask you for an appointment so that he could support it. May I have an answer in order to tell my son of your decision?>
7. His own, and addressed to Dalibard (APS). His son, a merchant in Vannes, has learned that the colonies are in great need of salt, which is in ample supply in the marshes near Vannes. The memorandum asks Dalibard, who has often appeared in previous volumes, to obtain from BF letters to the Congressional agents in Nantes, Bordeaux, etc., to place their orders solely with Guérin fils. The father, whose brother bought Wickes’s prizes, saw BF several times about that matter. (See above, XXIII, 148 n.) He recommends his son as “honnête, réfléchi et actif,” and knows that BF will never repent of dealing with him.
