Madam,

I [In] my last I acquainted you with the Steps I had taken for your good Father’s Relief and Discharge.9 I have the Pleasure of sending you the Transcript of a Passage from an English News-Paper just received, by which it appears that he is at Liberty, on which I most heartily congratulate you.1 With great Esteem I have the honour to be &c.

1. A report of Laurens’ release appeared in the London Courant, Westminster Chronicle, and Daily Advertiser of Jan. 1, 1782, and in the Public Advertiser of the next day. Apparently BF had not yet received Vaughan’s letter of Jan. 3, above.
