Leitch’s records indicate that on this date TJ purchased by order “2½ Bushels Salt” at “9/–” for a total of $3.75. In an earlier entry for the same day, Leitch recorded selling TJ, per Edmund Bacon, “2 Sets Knitting needles 4½d. 1 Pepper 3/– ⅌ Order” for $0.63 (Leitch Daybook description begins MS daybook of Charlottesville merchant James Leitch, 2 Mar. 1820–8 May 1823, ViCMRL on deposit ViU, bound volume with ruled paper, in a clerk’s hand description ends , p. 181).
