A 16 Mar. 1822 entry in Leitch’s records shows that on that day TJ purchased by order “17 ℔s 10d Cutt nails” at “1/” for a total of $2.84 (Leitch Daybook description begins MS daybook of Charlottesville merchant James Leitch, 2 Mar. 1820–8 May 1823, ViCMRL, on deposit ViU, bound volume with ruled paper, in a clerk’s hand description ends , p. 381).
