Sir,
The letter to Governor Matthews, will be prepared by the Secretary of State or myself, in pursuance of the late intelligence. I now submit you another letter just received from Mr Elholm, the Adjutant General of the Militia of that State, which would appear to have some reference to the intrusions.1 I have the honor to be Sir, with perfect respect Your obedient Servant

1. Augustus Christian George Elholm (d. 1799), a Revolutionary War officer, served as adjutant general of Georgia from December 1792 to January 1795. The enclosure has not been identified, but GW’s journal of proceedings states that Elholm’s letter was "covering proceedings of certain people of that State & an address to the President U.S. relatively to the situation of their frontiers" (, 316). Bartholomew Dandridge, Jr., responded to Knox on this date: "By the President’s direction Bw Dandridge returns to the Secy of war, the letter from the Adjutant General of Georgia & the papers which accompanied it, & informs him that the President desires him to take them into consideration & report his opinion on the subject of them" (DLC:GW).
