Treasury Department, Revenue Office, January 16, 1795. “I have this moment sent over to your office, a requisition of Col. Nevill1 for Three thousand dollars. As Mr McNair,2 for whom the money is wanted, leaves Philadelphia to day, it will be particularly desirable that a warrant for it may be got thro’ with expedition. It being the first money that Col. Nevill has received, there can be no doubt, I presume, of its propriety.”

1. On November 18, 1794, H had appointed Presley Neville “Agent for procuring supplies in the Western Country.” The “first object” of Neville’s agency was the purchase of whiskey. See H to Neville, November 18, 1794.
2. Dunning McNair of Pittsburgh commanded the Second Regiment of Allegheny County militia during the Whiskey Insurrection.
