Sir

A few days ago I was in Gloucester County; whilst there, I rode through a tract of Land a Gentleman in Company informed me belong to you; he said you offered it for sale a few years ago, but coud not tell me the terms.1 If Sir, you are still inclinable to dispose of it, and your terms are such as I can purchase under, dont doubt but we may bargain. Will thank you for a line on the subject, when I will take a full view of the Lands and give an answer. With real esteem and respect I am Sir Your Obt Hble Sert

George Fitzhugh

ALS, DLC:GW. George Fitzhugh (1751–1810) of Nanzatico in King George County was the son of John Fitzhugh of Bellair in Stafford County.

1GW owned a tract of about 400 acres on Back River, a branch of the North River, in Gloucester. For the terms that GW had offered in response to earlier inquiries about purchasing the land, see GW to Warner Lewis, 5 March 1790, and Joshua Gayle to GW, 8 Dec. 1793, n.1.
