State of New Hampshire—February 2nd 1795.

Sir,

I have the honor to inclose herewith, an Attested Copy of an Act of the legislature of this State Entitled, “An Act to ratify an Article proposed in amendment to the Constitution of the United States,”1 and of being, with great respect, Sir, Your most obedient servant.

John Taylor Gilman.

Copy, DNA: RG 46, Third Congress, 1793–95, second session, entry 33. The copy was transmitted to Congress with GW’s first letter of 17 February. John Taylor Gilman (1753–1828) served as governor of New Hampshire, 1794–1805 and 1813–16.

1The enclosed act, dated 20 June 1794, is copied with this letter, and the whole is certified by George Taylor, Jr., as “True Copies” (DNA: RG 46, Third Congress, 1793–95, second session, entry 33).
