From Alexander Hamilton to George Washington, [7 April 1794]

To George Washington1

[Philadelphia, April 7, 1794]

The Secretary of the Treasury presents his respects to the President and has the honor to transmit a resolution of the Committee of Inquiry into the state of the Treasury Department, of the 5. instant which came to his hand this morning,2 together with the paper to which it relates.3 The Committee meet again tomorrow Evening.4

4According to the minute book of the committee, the meeting of Saturday, April 5, 1794, was adjourned until Tuesday, April 8, 1794. The next entry in the minute book, however, is for Thursday, April 10, 1794, when H “attended, and produced the answer of the Presidt. to the resolution of the Commee. on Saturday last, respecting authorities for drawing monies borrowed abroad to the United States” (D, Papers of the Select Committee Appointed to Examine the Treasury Department, Third Congress, National Archives).
