of the Bank of the United States1

September 7th 1792

Sir

The fund appropriated for the contingent expences of this Department being exhausted, I have to request, that you will give a credit to the Register of the Treasury for fifteen hundred Dollars, to be by him applied on that account.

A temporary account will be to be opened for the purpose, which will be discharged by the Treasurer as soon as an appropriation shall be made by law.2

With respectful consideration, I have the honor to be, Gentlemen, Your Obedt Servant.

1. Thomas Willing was president of the Bank of the United States.

2. This item is listed in Statement “B” of “Estimate of the Expenditures for the Civil List of the United States for the Year 1793,” which H submitted to Congress on November 14, 1792. An appropriation for it was made by “An Act making appropriations for the support of Government for the year one thousand seven hundred and ninety-three” (1 Stat. description begins The Public Statutes at Large of the United States of America (Boston, 1845). description ends 325–29 [February 28, 1793]).
