Philadelphia, November 13, 1790. Introduces R. J. Vanden Broeck who was “a Clerk for a considerable period in the office of the Auditor of the State of New York and afterwards in that of the Secretary at War.…”

1Mifflin, a former Quaker and Philadelphia merchant, was a veteran of the American Revolution, during which he had achieved the rank of major general. He was a member of the Continental Congress from 1782 to 1784 and served as president of that body from December 13, 1783, to June 3, 1784. He was president of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania from 1788 to 1790, when he was elected governor of the state.
