From George Washington to Fisher Ames, 31 May 1796

Tuesday 31st of May. 1796

Dear Sir,

As it may not be convenient for you to call upon me before your departure for the Federal City, and if it was, I might be otherwise engaged at the moment; I hand you the enclosed letters: not meaning by doing so, to avoid the pleasure of seeing you before you set out. and then, as now, to wish you an agreeable journey, and the perfect restoration [of] your health; being with very great esteem Dear Sir Your obedient Servant

Go: Washington

P.S. If you do not leave the City before Thursday, let me ask the favor of your company at Dinner that day, 4 oclock.
